Game Rules

HOW A MATCH ACTUALLY WORKS

Hunting Game is real-world manhunt. One group hunts, the other runs, and everyone's live GPS position drives the radar, the compass and every catch. This page explains the whole thing — you'll be asked to accept these rules in the app before you can host or join a match.

The short version

Hearts

Runners start with 3 hearts, hunters with 5. Hearts are the currency of the whole match — nearly every rule below either costs one or takes one from someone else. Reaching zero eliminates you for the rest of the match; you stay on as a spectator and can still watch it play out.

Getting caught

A hunter has to physically get within about 15 metres of a runner and send a catch request. The runner sees a prompt on their own phone with two answers:

Being caught costs the runner one heart, every time. A runner who loses their last heart to a catch is out of the match, and no rescue can bring them back.

Jail mode

If the host enabled jail mode, a caught runner isn't eliminated — they're sentenced, and the match keeps a way back in for them.

A jailbreak isn't free. It costs the runner who pulled it off one heart, and it takes one heart from every hunter still in the match. Standing in the jail also means standing exactly where the hunters know to look, in the open, for as long as it takes — so it's a real gamble, not a free reset.

The bail-out clock only runs while there's actually somebody in the jail to release, and it's continuous — step outside the jail area and it starts over.

The play area

The host draws the play area before the match starts. A zone inside it shrinks steadily over the match, pushing everyone closer together as time runs down. Being outside either one gives you a short warning and then starts draining a heart at a time, for hunters and runners alike, until you're back inside or eliminated. Your phone's GPS accuracy is taken into account, so hovering near the edge won't punish you for a bad signal.

Power-ups

Power-ups are scattered around the play area and collected by walking to them: invisibility, a ghost decoy that fakes a trail, an EMP that jams nearby radar, thermal vision, adrenaline (which also grants bonus hearts), and a safe-zone flare that makes a bubble where no catch can happen until it burns out.

Playing fair, and playing safely

This game moves you through real, physical, public places. Obey traffic laws and posted rules, don't trespass, don't play in a way that puts you or anyone else in danger, and never let the app pull your attention off your surroundings. Agree the boundaries with the people you're playing with before you start.

Don't fake your GPS, don't travel by vehicle when the match is meant to be on foot, and don't use the app's location features to follow anyone who isn't knowingly playing with you. Hosts can turn on an anti-cheat check that rejects implausible movement. Every player can be reported or blocked from their profile, and we act on reports.
